Mozambican Prawn Curry

This delicious Mozambican prawn curry recipe makes use of the country's famous seafood and mouthwatering spices. 

Cook up a prawn curry for a mouthwatering shellfish flavour sensation. Our warming seafood curry dish  is infused with delicious aromatic spices, tomato salsa, carrot raita, chutney, popadums and basmati rice

Serves 2-4


12 Meduim Prawn tails cleaned and deshelled

400ml Coconut milk

1 Onion - Chopped

4Tomatoes - Chopped

2 Garlic cloves – Finelly chopped

½ Green pepper - Chopped

½ Red pepper - Chopped

1 tbsp Tomato paste  

2 tbsp Curry powder (Mild)

1 tsp Cumin powder

1 Cinemon stick

250ml olive oil


1 Cup Basmati rice

2 Popedoms

1 Tomato & Onion – For salsa

100ml Chutney

Salt & Pepper

Fresh coriander for garnish

Fresh coconut for garnish


1. First clean the prawns, remove shell and keep a side.

2. Heat olive oil in a large sauce pan or pot, fry together onions, garlic, peppers, tomato paste, curry powder, cumin powder and cinemon stick for 10min, until soft.

3. Add coconut milk, tomatoes and bring to boil.

4. Add prawn tails, recude heat and simmer for 10-15min until prawns are cooked. Remove cinemon stick.

5. Serve with sides.

Sides for curry:

Carrot raita:

500 ml Yogurt

1 Grated carrot

50g Fresh mint

1 tsp Mustard seeds roasted

Seasoning (salt & pepper)

Roast mustard seeds in pan for 5min. Mix all ingredient together and serve on side with curry.

Tomato salasa:

1 Chopped tomato

1 Chopped onion

Fresh coriander

Mix all ingredients together and serve on the side with curry.


Any sweet chutney to serve on the side.


Deep fry until crispy around 2 minutes and serve on side with curry.
